2. Francis BETTIS Sr. died about 1782 in Edgefield Co., S.C.. Francis Bettes or Bettis lived in Edgecombe and Cumberland Counties, NC. Francis Bettis and the Swearingen families (who are quite prominent in the early Bettis history) lived on the south side of the Tar river between the important tobacco towns of Tarboro and Rockmount in Edgecombe County. These men were cotton and tobacco growers and supplies came to the towns by boat.

He was married to Mary EVANS (daughter of Charles EVANS Sr.). Mary EVANS died in 1774. Francis BETTIS Sr. and Mary EVANS had the following children:

child10 iii. Francis BETTIS Jr. died in 1814.
